SAT/ACT

The SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test)

From the spring of junior year to the winter of senior year, students across the United States prepare to take the SAT College Entrance Exam. The College Board’s SAT exam is used by most colleges and universities to assess a student’s college readiness. The SAT isn’t designed to assess how well you’ve memorized a large set of facts; rather, the SAT assesses your ability to apply the knowledge and skills you’ll need in college and career.

The SAT is made of 2 major sections- the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (96 questions) and the Math Section (58 questions), each of which is scored on a scale from 200-800. Students may score anywhere between 400 and 1600 in total. Please read the guide included on this page below for a more in-depth look at the exam.

It is important to remember THERE ARE NO GOOD OR BAD SCORES, only ones that do or do not align with the college of your choice.

Fortunately, there are some great preparation resources available, many of which are free:

For in-person SAT Prep, check with community partners in the area to see if they are offering courses (usually for a fee).
