Superintendent Bio

GERMANTOWN--Effective July 1, Beverly Meagher became the Superintendent of the Germantown Central School District. The announcement by Andrea Foley, president of the Board of Education for the district, followed a year in which Ms. Meagher served as Acting Superintendent for seven months and then as Interim Superintendent all the while continuing her duties as Elementary School Principal.
Ms. Meagher joined the district as the Elementary School Principal in July of 2018, relocating from the Binghamton area. Ms. Meagher has an unusual background. Although her college degree was in teaching, the first 18 years of her career were spent in the hospitality business in Boston – an endeavor she loved and that she credits for her understanding that satisfying the customer, be that a student, parent, coworker or guest, is always key. It was only after her family relocated to Binghamton that Ms. Meagher embarked on a career in education, serving as an elementary teacher, instructional coach and director of Data and Instructional Progress for 15 years.
Ms. Meagher has an undergraduate degree in Childhood Education, a master’s degree in School Administration and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration.
Ms. Meagher, who lives near Albany, loves Germantown for its community, where everyone knows everyone. It is, in her words, “not just special, but magnetic” and filled with people who are “looking to do the best for the kids.” She sees challenges for the district, because of the changing demographic of the area and declining school-age population, largely driven by the fact that young families cannot buy or rent homes in the area, but also great potential for the schools to do more. She feels honored to lead a “great team” at the school.
Of Ms. Meagher’s one-year tenure as acting and then interim superintendent, Board of Education President Foley said: “Bev has not only addressed immediate needs and solved complex issues, but she has also championed meaningful initiatives that are already having a positive impact throughout our schools. Her support of staff, focus on student success, and commitment to fostering a welcoming, family-like culture have strengthened our district in countless ways. Just as importantly, she has prioritized community engagement and transparency, helping to build stronger connections between our schools and the families and residents we serve.”
